likes to turn how conventional jewellery is viewed on its head. Tanja Falkenhayner is the jewellery designer behind the name Emmert Design. A native of Stuttgart, she started learning the art of gold working from scratch in her home town before studying at Idar Oberstein, where she discovered her love of beautiful stones in the heart of Germany’s gem-cutting industry. Today, she pushes the boundaries of classical craftsmanship by working with gemstones such as quartz, onyx, naturally coloured and dyed agates to carve out extraordinary pieces of jewellery. The result is always charmingly surprising jewellery. Take for example ‘The Daltons’. Depending on which way you look at these rings, you can see different things. If you turn the striped ring, you’ll see a solid design. Dare to contradict, to try the impossible – that’s basically the designer’s approach to design in a nutshell.
